The Bayelsa State government is poised to pursue legal action against former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and APC governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva. This comes in the wake of the death of George Sibo, a PDP member and election agent, during the governorship election in November 2023 in Brass.
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, expressed sorrow over the tragic incident and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. Diri refrained from escalating tensions during the election, opting to prioritize peace over confrontation.
Diri questioned Sylva’s presence at the collation center in Twon-Brass after the election, linking it to the fatal events that transpired. The governor has instructed the Attorney-General to prosecute Sylva and others involved in the violence that led to Sibo’s death.
In a compassionate gesture, Diri directed the employment of Sibo’s widows in the state civil service to support their families. The Brass PDP Caucus Chairman pledged cooperation with the government to ensure justice for the slain party member.
