Tragic Plane Crash in Alaska Leaves Air Force Colonel and Another Man Missing
An Air Force colonel and another man are missing after a small plane crashed into Crescent Lake near Moose Pass on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. Identified as Col. Mark “Tyson” Sletten, 46, of Anchorage, and Paul Kondrat, 41, of Utah, the men were on an instructional flight when the accident occurred.
The Alaskan Command, where Col. Sletten serves as director of operations, is conducting search and rescue operations with the help of volunteers from the Alaska Dive, Search, Rescue, and Recovery Team. The team is utilizing sonar, remotely operated vehicles, and trained divers to search the lake, which is over 200 feet deep in some areas.
Two hikers initially reported the crash, but efforts to locate the survivors have so far been unsuccessful. Debris was found on the lake, but no signs of the men were found on shore or in the water.
The small community of Moose Pass, located about 100 miles south of Anchorage, has been shaken by the tragedy. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the missing men during this difficult time.
