Recent ship attacks by the Houthi rebels led the American forces to destroy two sites in Yemen, targeting the group responsible for the assaults. The Houthis have been attacking vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November 2023, claiming solidarity with Palestinians during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
In response, the United States and Britain initiated strikes in Yemen to cripple the rebels’ capacity for further attacks, along with a global military effort to intercept drones and missiles aimed at ships.
The US Central Command successfully eliminated Houthi control stations and vessels, while destroying eight drones owned by the rebels. These attacks have escalated insurance costs for ships navigating through the Red Sea, leading many firms to seek alternative routes to avoid danger.
The Houthi insurgency, which began in 2014, has significantly impacted maritime operations, prompting international intervention to safeguard shipping lanes.
