The Falkland Islands Government has announced a public consultation on the Environmental Impact Statement for the Sea Lion Field Northern Development Area, Phase 1 and 2. This development, located 220km north of the Islands, involves drilling 23 wells and the production of over 300 million barrels of oil through the use of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO).

Navitas Petroleum Development and Production Limited has submitted the statement, and the consultation will run from June 24 to August 5, 2024. The public will have the opportunity to access the documents and provide feedback on the project. Deputy Portfolio Holder for Natural Resources, MLA John Birmingham emphasized the importance of managing environmental impacts while harnessing the economic potential of offshore hydrocarbons.
