Raya Nazaryan elected as Bulgaria’s parliament speaker

Raya Nazaryan, a Bulgarian Armenian, has been elected as the new President of the 50th National Assembly of Bulgaria, with 131 lawmakers supporting her candidacy. With over 12 years of experience in law, specializing in mediation and legal dispute resolution, Nazaryan has a strong background in commercial, civil, and administrative litigation in Bulgarian courts.

She was born in Varna city in 1985 and is a member of the Sofia Bar Association, as well as a partner and co-founder of a law firm. Her main rival, Peter Petrov, received 54 votes in favor, but Nazaryan ultimately emerged victorious in the election.

Entering politics in 2022, Nazaryan’s appointment marks a significant milestone in her career. With her expertise and experience, she is poised to lead the National Assembly effectively and contribute to the governance of Bulgaria.
