Protesters recently took to the streets in Kaduna, demanding the arrest and prosecution of former governor Nasir El-Rufai over an indictment of N423 billion. The protesters, under the Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance, marched to the Government House with placards calling for justice and transparency in government.
An ad hoc committee set up by the Kaduna State House of Assembly revealed that loans obtained during El-Rufai’s administration were misused, leading to a heavy debt burden. The committee recommended the prosecution of El-Rufai and others for abuse of office and money laundering.
Current Governor Uba Sani, facing financial challenges inherited from the previous administration, vowed to steer Kaduna towards progress. The protest leader, Comrade Victor Duniya, urged Governor Sani to take action based on the committee’s findings and recover misappropriated funds.
The protesters were later received by government officials who promised to relay their message to the governor, emphasizing the need for accountability and good governance in Kaduna State.
