Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Prioritizes Privatization and Energy Sector Reforms
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the government’s top priority of privatizing and outsourcing power distribution companies during a meeting with foreign energy experts. He expressed the need to benefit from Georgia’s experiences in the energy sector to bring reforms and reduce electricity charges in Pakistan. The PM emphasized tackling challenges such as circular debt, line losses, and electricity theft while promoting alternative energy sources like solar power to decrease reliance on expensive resources.
Furthermore, PM Shehbaz directed federal ministers to collaborate with the delegation and develop a comprehensive strategy for energy sector reforms. The meeting, attended by key officials, focused on fostering public-private partnerships in the energy industry to enhance efficiency.
In a separate address regarding desertification and land degradation issues, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable land management practices and reforestation programs. He emphasized the significance of achieving land degradation neutrality and ensuring community resilience.
On Desertification and Drought Day 2024, PM Shehbaz stressed the theme “United for Land. Our Legacy. Our Future.” to underline the critical importance of responsible land stewardship.
