Authorities in New York City are searching for an anti-Israel protester who, along with a masked group, took over a subway car and targeted Zionists onboard, the police reported. The suspect has been captured in an image released by the New York Police Department, seeking help from the public to identify him for a coercion charge.
The incident occurred on June 10 on the 5 train in Union Square, where the protester shouted, “Raise your hands if you’re a Zionist. Repeat after me, this is your chance to get out!” as per NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper’s online post.
No arrests were made that night, but anti-Israel protesters also clashed with police outside a Manhattan exhibit memorializing victims of the Nova music festival attack. The protesters chanted “Long Live the Intifada” and “Israel go to hell” during the demonstration.
Anti-Israel protests have been on the rise in the U.S. since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas, with universities and colleges being common protest sites. Israel’s swift retaliation sparked global protests, with ongoing tension surrounding the conflict.
