The Coronation of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan: Oba Olakulehin

Makinde approves Olakulehin as 43rd Olubadan

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, recently ratified the appointment of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land. The governor’s approval came after the throne became vacant following the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun.

Oba Olakulehin, previously the Balogun of Ibadanland and next in rank, had faced controversy over his health, leading to tensions amongst kingmakers. Despite the uncertainties, he was eventually ratified as the Olubadan-designate after a decisive meeting summoned by Senator Rashidi Ladoja, the head of the kingmakers.

Oba Olakulehin expressed his gratitude and readiness for the role during various engagements, including church services and meetings with government officials. The governor confirmed that due process was followed in Olakulehin’s selection, amidst some opposition from Ibadan indigenes.

The government’s approval finally cleared all controversies, leading to the anticipation of a forthcoming coronation for the new Olubadan, with hopes of greater developments for Ibadanland and Oyo State.
