Lahore meeting explores ways to enhance Iran-Pakistan trade

Ambassadors from Iran and Pakistan, along with officials from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, gathered for a meeting to discuss enhancing trade relations between the two countries with a goal of reaching $10 billion in trade volume.

Pakistani officials and traders identified various obstacles hindering business activities, such as the lack of banking channels, the need for a gas pipeline from Iran to Pakistan, the importance of a barter mechanism, expediting the finalization of a free trade agreement, and organizing specialized exhibitions of Pakistani goods similar to Iran Expo.

The Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad emphasized the potential of the Chabahar port for Pakistani economic players to access the Iranian market and beyond. The Pakistani Ambassador to Iran highlighted Iran’s tourism and economic capacities for Pakistani government and private sector to explore. The regional head of FPCCI stressed the importance of joint efforts to achieve the $10 billion trade target.

Overall, the meeting aimed to address challenges and explore opportunities for boosting bilateral trade between Iran and Pakistan.
