Florida man buys mask before attempting bank robbery

A Florida man, Colton Vanhonhenstein, was captured on video purchasing a face mask from a gas station before attempting to burglarize a bank across the street, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Vanhenstein, 33, tried to rob an unlocked Wells Fargo bank branch, but the alarm system alerted law enforcement of the attempted burglary.

Despite the bank being closed, Vanhonhenstein allegedly entered the bank wearing the mask he had just bought, but he was caught on security footage before he could get far and managed to only walk away with the mask.

After a delay in the alarm system notifying authorities, Vanhonhenstein was eventually apprehended with the help of surveillance footage.

He was charged with burglary for his failed attempt, while police investigate why the bank’s doors were left unlocked and the alarm monitoring company’s delayed response.
