Families of Boeing 737 MAX Crash Victims Seek $24.78 Billion Fine
Relatives of the victims of two fatal Boeing 737 MAX crashes are demanding justice. They have asked the Justice Department to impose a fine of up to $24.78 billion on the plane maker and pursue criminal prosecution. The Justice Department previously found that Boeing violated a deferred prosecution agreement related to the fatal crashes that claimed 346 lives. The families suggest suspending a portion of the fine if Boeing commits to improving compliance and safety standards. They also urge criminal prosecutions of the responsible corporate officials.
Boeing denies violating the agreement and faces a decision from federal prosecutors by July 7. The incidents in 2018 and 2019 led to the grounding of the 737 MAX planes for 20 months due to safety concerns with the MCAS system.
Senator Richard Blumenthal supports pursuing prosecution, emphasizing the need for accountability. The families seek closure and justice for their loved ones lost in these tragic events.
