An explosion at a military ammunition depot in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena, tragically resulted in the loss of at least nine lives and left over 40 individuals injured. The incident, which occurred near N’Djamena-Hassan Djamous International Airport, also caused significant material damage as reported by Chadian government officials. Medical treatment is being provided to 46 individuals who sustained injuries, with the situation now under control.
Following the explosion, flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended for safety reasons. President Mahamat Idriss Deby has initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, emphasizing the importance of determining responsibility. The resident, Oumar Mahamat, recounted the panic and confusion that ensued, with many initially mistaking the blast for an armed attack.
