Burning Tragedy in Chad: Exploding Ammunition Depot
A devastating fire ripped through a military ammunition depot in N’Djamena, Chad, causing explosions that claimed the lives of at least nine people and injured dozens. The blaze, which began on Tuesday night, set off powerful blasts that shook buildings far away and lit up the night sky with flames.
President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno assured citizens that the situation was under control, urging calm. However, Health Minister Abdelmadjid Abderahim warned that the death toll could rise as many of the wounded were in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, with government spokesman Abderaman Koulamallah stating it was not criminal. The explosions destroyed military vehicles and scattered unexploded munitions across the area.
The tragedy hit close to home for one family who lost a young girl in the chaos. The community was left reeling as homes were destroyed, and a heavy security presence cordoned off the devastated area amidst thick red smoke lingering in the air.
Chad, a key player in combating militant movements in the Sahel region, now faces the aftermath of this tragic incident.
