The inquiry, spanning from March 2011 to the end of 2013, documented how the union collaborated with security forces to quell protests both on campus and beyond. Students faced harassment, physical abuse, and psychological torture at the hands of union members, who patrolled the university grounds to suppress any form of opposition.
One disturbing incident highlighted in the investigation occurred when union members violently dispersed a student demonstration, resorting to physical assault with sticks and hands. Detained students were subjected to various forms of torture, including electric shocks and beatings.
The investigation concluded with a chilling portrayal of the union’s systematic repression of dissent at Damascus University, illustrating the extent of their involvement in silencing opposing voices during that period.
