South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in for a second full term as president after the ANC struck a government coalition deal. Lawmakers re-elected him after the election produced no outright winner.
Ramaphosa emphasized the need to work together to address the people’s plight. He is expected to announce his cabinet soon, while talks with coalition members continue.
Several heads of state attended the inauguration, and guests arrived early at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. After taking the oath, a band played the national anthem followed by a 21-gun salute.
It was Ramaphosa’s third oath, and he aims to bring a new dawn to South Africa. Despite challenges in the economy and political landscape, he stressed the importance of unity and cooperation for the country’s progress and development.
