Morocco’s Fight Against Hate Speech and Youth Empowerment
During a high-level event in New York, Morocco’s permanent representative to the UN, ambassador Omar Hilale, emphasized King Mohammed VI’s commitment to promoting coexistence and combating hate speech. The event, co-organized by Morocco’s Permanent Mission to the UN and the UN Office for the Prevention of Genocide, celebrated the International Day for Countering Hate Speech.
Ambassador Hilale highlighted King Mohammed VI’s focus on empowering Moroccan youth through education and civic engagement to combat extremism and social exclusion. He emphasized the importance of civil society and youth associations in this effort, praising the work of the Consultative Council for Youth and Associative Action.
The event also featured messages from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, urging investment in promoting tolerance and diversity to combat hate speech. The involvement of young people in these efforts was emphasized, recognizing them as key agents of change in building a more inclusive society.
