North Korea and Russia Enter New Phase of Prosperity
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Pyongyang, confirming the start of a “new phase of prosperity” in their relations. Kim expressed a desire to strengthen the “fiery friendship” between the two nations, emphasizing the significance of their partnership.
During the summit, Kim highlighted the unprecedented growth in their ties, surpassing even the Soviet-Korean relations of the past. Putin, on his first visit to North Korea in 24 years, affirmed the crucial role Russia plays in global stability and balance.
The leaders announced a new founding document to solidify their long-term relations, signaling substantial progress in enhancing bilateral ties. Kim also pledged to enhance strategic communications with Russia, showcasing a commitment to further collaboration.
However, reports suggest that Pyongyang supplied Russia with ammunition, leading to concerns over the use of North Korean ballistic missiles in Ukraine. Despite these allegations, the summit marked a significant step towards closer cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
