Budget 2024-25 Targeting Middle Class and Feudal Lords: JI Chief

Jamaat-i-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman criticized the budget 2024-25, stating it is designed to bully the middle class and favor feudal lords. He highlighted the burden placed on the lower and middle classes, despite claims of decreased inflation. The JI leader emphasized the government’s focus on increasing taxes on essential food items, worsening the economic situation for ordinary citizens.

Naeemur Rehman condemned the lack of relief for private sector employees in the budget and criticized the skewed tax regime favoring feudal lords over the salaried class. He noted the exodus of professionals due to social and economic injustices in Pakistan.

The JI leader also raised concerns about the flawed agricultural policies and unpaid dues to sugar cane growers by the ‘sugar mills mafia.’ Additionally, he questioned the government’s transparency on wheat imports and high power generation costs in the country.

Overall, the budget has received criticism from various political parties, including AJP and JUI-F, for being hostile towards the poor and urban populations. The MQM-P also rejected the budget, calling it anti-urban and demanding reduced income tax burden for the salaried class.
