Cyril Ramaphosa takes oath for second term as South African President – Other Media updates

South African President Ramaphosa is gearing up to appoint a Cabinet in a groundbreaking move, as his party lost its parliamentary majority in the recent election. With the help of opposition parties, Ramaphosa secured his reelection and is set to co-govern the country in a coalition government.

The inauguration, which took place at the Union Buildings, saw the presence of various African heads of state and diplomats, signaling the beginning of a challenging final term for Ramaphosa. This will be the first time in South Africa’s democratic history that a coalition government will be formed, as no single party holds a majority.

The government of national unity will comprise at least three parties, with an open invitation for more to join. Dignitaries in attendance included King Mswati III of Eswatini, Nigeria President Bola Tinubu, Zimbabwe President Emerson Mnangagwa, and former Kenya prime minister Raila Odinga.
