The Jordanian Public Prosecution is cracking down on individuals involved in facilitating illegal migration. In a recent case, an Irbid prosecutor ordered the detention of a person for 15 days on charges related to human trafficking for acting as a broker in illegal travel, endangering victims’ lives. Another individual, the owner of a travel services office, was banned from traveling under the Anti-Human Trafficking Law. Human trafficking through illegal migration is considered a severe crime in Jordan, carrying penalties of up to 20 years in prison and hefty fines.
The victims of illegal migration face financial exploitation, life-threatening conditions, and violations of international borders. The law mandates that authorities protect victims’ well-being and provide necessary care. Victims are entitled to temporary residence, legal assistance, compensation, and confidentiality. The law also grants the prosecutor general the authority to cease pursuing charges against victims coerced into participating in trafficking crimes.
The Public Prosecution encourages victimized individuals to report to authorities to identify perpetrators and protect the community. It’s a step towards ensuring justice for victims and holding traffickers accountable.
