Beijing and Seoul have agreed to enhance dialogue to build “political trust and promote practical cooperation” following high-level foreign affairs and defense discussions in Seoul. The Chinese delegation, led by Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Deputy Director Zhang Baoqun, engaged with South Korean officials to discuss bilateral relations and global issues of mutual interest.
The 2+2 dialogue, established in 2002 and upgraded to the vice-ministerial level in 2020, focused on strategic cooperation and fostering greater communication. Both sides also explored opportunities for local government and youth exchanges.
During the meeting, the officials also addressed the Korean peninsula issue, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the region. China reiterated its commitment to playing a constructive role in Korean peninsula affairs and underlined its stance on Taiwan and other core interests.
Furthermore, the discussions underscored the shared commitment of China and South Korea to counter hegemony, unilateralism, and trade barriers. Both countries pledged to safeguard global supply chains and oppose the politicization of economic issues.
