Washington: The United States and India, as the world’s two oldest and largest democracies, are strengthening their bond of friendship through National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan’s visit. The White House announced that Sullivan’s trip aims to deepen the partnership for a safer and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Sullivan’s visit to New Delhi from June 17 to 18 marks the first trip by a senior Biden administration official after the Modi government’s re-election for a third term. During his visit, Sullivan met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby highlighted the importance of the US-India partnership, emphasizing the goal of enhancing cooperation in critical and emerging technologies through initiatives like iCET. This partnership aims to expand strategic collaboration in various key sectors, including space, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and clean energy.
Despite questions regarding an Indian national accused in a murder-for-hire plot in the US, Kirby reiterated that the focus of Sullivan’s visit is to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in emerging technologies. The visit comes amidst ongoing investigations into the alleged plot.
