Putin vows to overcome sanctions with Kim before summit
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea, expressing gratitude for their support in the Ukraine conflict and highlighting their alliance against U.S.-led sanctions. Putin’s remarks, published in North Korean state media, emphasized the opposition to Western sanctions and the development of independent trade and payment systems.

During the visit, Putin also announced plans to expand cooperation in tourism, culture, and education. However, concerns arose about a potential arms deal between North Korea and Russia, linking munitions supply for Russia’s war in Ukraine with aid for Kim’s nuclear programs.

Economic sanctions against both countries have prompted closer ties, with increased military and economic exchanges since Kim’s meeting with Putin in 2019. The visit coincided with Putin’s reshuffling of defense ministry officials, including appointing a relative to a key position.
