Putin to vow trade and security cooperation with North Korea

Vladimir Putin, in a letter published by North Korean state media, pledged support for building trade and security systems with North Korea that are not controlled by the West. Putin emphasized the importance of developing alternative mechanisms of trade and mutual settlements, as well as building an architecture of equal and indivisible security in Eurasia.

The Russian president thanked North Korea for supporting Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine and vowed to assist Pyongyang in defending its interests against US pressure. The letter comes ahead of Putin’s planned visit to North Korea, the first in 24 years, where a partnership agreement may be signed, including security issues.

Russia and North Korea have denied arms transfers, despite US accusations. The Security Council remains divided over how to handle North Korea’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs, with Russia and China advocating for eased sanctions. Putin’s upcoming visits to North Korea and Vietnam demonstrate Russia’s strategic approach to international relations.
