Is there a hidden agenda behind US-built Gaza pier?

In March, President Joe Biden announced a US-built floating pier on Gaza’s shore for large-scale aid delivery. Ibrahim Youssed and Ahmed Abu Kamel frequently observed the construction progress at the Wadi Gaza Bridge, where over a thousand American personnel worked on the Trident Pier and causeway. Amid skepticism about the pier’s intent, the temporary structure aims to deliver 500 tonnes of aid daily to Gaza.

With ongoing conflict and dire humanitarian needs in Gaza, questions arise about the pier’s actual motives. Some view it as a political maneuver by the US, while others fear it could impact Palestinian political rights. Amid concerns, aid deliveries through the pier resumed after a storm-related incident, but challenges persist in meeting Gaza’s significant aid requirements.

Isolating Gaza

Political analysts raise concerns about the pier becoming a tool for controlling Gaza and undermining existing aid channels. As aid agencies stress the importance of land routes for effective aid delivery, the pier’s role in aid distribution remains controversial.

As Gaza-based journalist Mohamed Solaimane reflects on the situation, the complexities of aid distribution and political dynamics in the region present ongoing challenges that need to be addressed for sustainable humanitarian support.
