Russia’s “undesirable” organization law violates human rights, according to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Since 2015, the law has targeted Putin’s opponents, leading to convictions and bans on groups. The ECHR ruling stated the law’s ambiguity restricts freedom of expression and association.
The case was brought by four international organizations labeled “undesirable” by Russia. Currently, 160 organizations are banned, including NGOs and media outlets. Despite this, the Russian government expanded the law to target foreign-funded organizations.
