President-elect Cyril Ramaphosa will have to perform a tricky balancing act when he appoints his government of national unity (GNU) Cabinet. He’ll have to accommodate members in his own party, the four other parties who have signed the GNU’s statement of intent, his allies in the SACP and Cosatu, get the generational mix right, and do all of this while reducing the Cabinet’s size. Ramaphosa will be sworn in on Wednesday and is expected to announce his Cabinet soon after that.
