Students held placards reading ‘No Grads in Gaza’, ‘Free Palestine. Stanford Divest,’ and ‘Disclose. Divest. Amnesty Now.’
Over 400 Stanford University students walked out of their graduation ceremony in protest against the school’s refusal to divest from corporations supporting Israeli atrocities in Gaza. Students wearing Palestinian symbols, including kaffiyahs, left the ceremony while holding placards with powerful messages. The demonstration was organized by Stanford Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP).
Alternative Ceremony
The students and their families participated in an ‘Alternative Commencement Ceremony Honoring Palestine’ after the walkout. The event featured speeches, poetry, and expressions of solidarity with Palestine.
Protests demanding divestment from Israel have been spreading across universities in the United States, with students taking a stand against complicity in Palestinian suffering. The protests highlight the need for universities to take responsibility for their investments and support for Israeli actions in Gaza.
Rising Death Toll
As the death toll continues to rise in Gaza due to Israeli aggression, international condemnation grows. The devastating impact of the war on Palestinians, including displacement and destruction of schools, underscores the urgent need for justice and accountability for the ongoing crisis in the region.
