The Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) Implements Automated Monitoring System for Specialist Residence Permits

The Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) has announced the introduction of an automated post-decision monitoring system for specialist residence permits, starting today. This new initiative is designed to ensure that holders of specialist residence permits in Finland continue to meet all necessary requirements throughout their stay in the country. Effective from January 1, 2023, the automated monitoring system will apply to all specialist residence permits issued on or after this date.

Specialist residence permits are granted to individuals with specialized skills who come to Finland to perform expert duties. The automated monitoring will focus on verifying key permit requirements, such as ensuring that specialists receive a salary that meets the stipulated income threshold.

Migri’s Director of the Permit and Citizenship Department, Pauliina Helminen, emphasized that automation enhances the efficiency of the permit process and helps detect any misuse. The extension of automated monitoring to specialist residence permits aligns with the Finnish Government’s strategy to combat labor exploitation and uphold the integrity of the permit process. Migri aims to support specialists contributing to Finland’s economy while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

By leveraging technology, Migri continues to streamline permit processing and monitor compliance effectively, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining a robust and transparent immigration system.
