There has been a wave of false information circulating that the Abuja Murtala Mohammed Expressway has been renamed Wole Soyinka Way, but the Federal Government has set the record straight. In a statement, it was clarified that the current administration never considered renaming the expressway.

The confusion arose from an event on June 4, 2024, where a new road in the Federal Capital Territory was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu. This new road, Arterial Road N20, now bears the name of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, as proposed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and approved by Tinubu.

The government emphasized that the Murtala Mohammed Expressway remains unchanged, honoring the legacy of the former Head of State. Citizens were urged to ignore any misinformation suggesting otherwise, as reports of the expressway’s renaming are false and unfounded. The statement advised all to disregard such rumors and reaffirmed the expressway’s dedication to General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.
