The Tony Awards last night celebrated the best of Broadway with much anticipation and surprises. The critically acclaimed play Stereophonic took home five Tonys, including Best Play and Best Direction of a Play, in a night hosted by Ariana DeBose.

Finally, the enigmatic category of Best Musical was won by The Outsiders, which also secured four Tony Awards. Unexpectedly, Danya Taymor won for direction of a musical, beating out Maria Friedman for Merrily We Roll Along, another beloved Sondheim revival that won four Tonys.

Celebrities shined on the Broadway stage, with Daniel Radcliffe, Sarah Paulson, and Jeremy Strong receiving acting awards. Notably, Kecia Lewis delivered a powerful speech upon winning, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in the arts.
