Conquering a nation: Sword or debt?

Conquering a nation: Sword or debt?

By JOACHIM BUWEMBO

In contemporary Uganda, the three certainties of life have evolved into 3 Ds: Debt, Dishonesty, and Degradation. Corruption, once disputed, is now acknowledged as rampant, while debt, equivalent to half of the GDP, compromises service delivery. Climate change exacerbates environmental degradation, with air pollution causing 31,000 annual deaths in Uganda. However, a glimmer of hope emerges as the government introduces electric buses to combat pollution, linking the three Ds. By funding e-mobility, Uganda aims to reduce pollution, cut fuel imports, and deter criminal activities associated with traditional transportation methods.
