UK polls predict electoral demise for PM Sunak’s Tories

Recent British opinion polls have painted a bleak picture for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party, with one poll even suggesting the party could face “electoral extinction” in the upcoming July 4th election. The polls, released midway through the campaign, show a significant lead for Keir Starmer’s Labour Party, with support for the Conservatives taking a hit.

Sunak’s decision to call the early election in May has left many within his party surprised. Market research from Savanta indicates a 25-point lead for Labour, the largest since the time of Sunak’s predecessor Liz Truss. The polls conducted by different agencies show a consistent trend of Labour gaining ground while the Conservatives face a decline in support.

Chris Hopkins, political research director at Savanta, warned of potential dire consequences for the Conservative Party based on their findings. The polls by Survation and Opinium also project a landslide victory for Labour, with the Conservatives lagging far behind.
