At the 17th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP) held at the UN Headquarters in New York, Head of Iran’s State Welfare Organization Ali Mohammad Qaderi spoke out against sanctions that violate human rights principles. Highlighting Iran’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities, Qaderi emphasized the importance of equal opportunities and the enactment of laws to protect their rights.
The State Welfare Organization has implemented programs to enhance social inclusion and accessibility for persons with disabilities, focusing on screening, education, vocational training, and employment opportunities. Despite facing economic challenges due to sanctions, Iran remains dedicated to expanding services for persons with disabilities.
Qaderi also called attention to the plight of Palestinians, especially those with disabilities, under Israeli occupation, urging the international community to hold the regime accountable for human rights violations. The speech underscored Iran’s commitment to promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities despite external challenges.
