The Clash at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital – A Tragic Series of Events

Sahiwal clash erupts between doctors and police over infant deaths – Pakistan

In a shocking turn of events, Sahiwal Teaching Hospital became the center of chaos when Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz dismissed four senior doctors, including the medical superintendent, for negligence after the tragic death of 11 infants in a fire incident on June 9.

During her visit to the hospital, CM Nawaz reviewed multiple inquiries that highlighted the hospital’s lack of functional fire equipment and negligence in handling the emergency situation. She criticized the administration for not replacing expired fire extinguishers, which ultimately led to the loss of innocent lives.

As tensions rose, a clash erupted between police and hospital staff when attempts were made to arrest the doctors on the CM’s orders. The Young Doctors Association (YDA) led protests against the arrests, causing disruptions in hospital services and leaving patients unattended.

The situation escalated further as doctors were injured in clashes with police, leading to demands for the release of their colleagues and action against the authorities responsible. Negotiations between DPO Faisal Shahzad and senior doctors finally led to the release of all detained individuals.

This tragic series of events serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability and proper emergency preparedness in healthcare institutions.
