Thousands took to the streets in Paris and cities across France in protest against the far-right National Rally (RN) ahead of upcoming French parliamentary elections. Police expected 350,000 to march, with 21,000 officers mobilized as labor unions, student groups, and rights organizations rallied against the anti-immigration, eurosceptic party.
Over 150 marches were planned in cities like Marseille, Toulouse, Lyon, and Lille. In Paris, 75,000 people marched from Place de La Republique to Nation. Estimates vary, with the CGT union claiming 250,000 in Paris and 640,000 nationwide, while police reported 217,000 demonstrators.
Protesters voiced concerns about RN leader Jordan Bardella potentially becoming Prime Minister, with one first-time marcher expressing worries about the party’s racist history. The movement aims to protect human rights, freedom, and tolerance, opposing the RN’s divisive ideologies.
As France prepares for legislative elections, polls suggest the RN may lead in the first round, challenging President Macron’s centrist camp. Protest banners across France stressed the importance of unity against far-right ideals and racism.
