France’s left-wing parties have formed a new coalition to prevent the far right, led by Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, from gaining power in the upcoming national parliamentary elections. Despite differences, the coalition leaders have compromised to align their views on crucial issues and mobilize against Le Pen’s camp.
The early legislative vote was called after President Macron dissolved the National Assembly following a defeat by the National Rally in the European Parliament election. The leftists, unions, and antiracism groups are uniting to hold protests against the far right across France.
The New Popular Front alliance, which includes environmentalists, Socialists, Communists, and France Unbowed, aims to repeal Macron’s controversial reforms and prioritize people’s needs and environmental concerns. They condemn antisemitism and stand in solidarity with Ukraine against Russian aggression.
While Macron dismisses the alliances as political maneuvering, the coalition leaders are determined to extinguish the National Rally’s flame and provide solutions for the country’s future.
