In a groundbreaking move, South Africa’s seventh Parliament defied traditional political norms during its first sitting.
Newly elected DA MPs surprised by voting for the ANC, leading to Cyril Ramaphosa’s re-election as president for a second term. The ANC, in turn, supported a DA candidate, creating a unique show of bipartisanship. Thoko Didiza from the ANC was elected as the speaker, with Annelie Lotriet from the DA as her deputy.
