In a shocking revelation, Reuters investigations have uncovered a secret anti-vaccination campaign led by the United States military during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Targeting China’s influence in the Philippines, the clandestine operation used fake social media accounts to spread doubt about Chinese vaccines and other aid supplies.
The military’s propaganda efforts escalated into an anti-vax campaign, disparaging the quality of Chinese vaccines and questioning their safety and efficacy. Using phony internet accounts impersonating Filipinos, posts with slogans like #Chinaangvirus aimed to undermine trust in China’s Sinovac inoculation.
After identifying at least 300 suspicious accounts, X (formerly Twitter) removed them as part of a coordinated bot campaign. The Pentagon’s anti-vax efforts extended beyond Southeast Asia and only ended in mid-2021 under the Biden administration.
Several public health experts have denounced the program, expressing dismay over risking public health for geopolitical gain. Despite the lower effectiveness of Chinese vaccines compared to Pfizer and Moderna, all were approved by the World Health Organization.
This revelation has sparked outrage and calls for investigation from various stakeholders, highlighting the critical importance of maintaining public trust in government health initiatives. The unethical tactics employed by the Pentagon underscore the need for transparency and accountability in global health efforts.\
