Ukraine recently signed a deal with US-based Venture Global to purchase LNG, following claims that it won’t extend a deal with Russia’s Gazprom. But what’s behind this move by the Kiev regime?

On June 13, DTEK Group announced an agreement with Venture Global to buy LNG from its facilities in Louisiana throughout 2026. Although Ukraine lacks regasification terminals, this deal seems more symbolic, with DTEK acting as a gas trader rather than true importer.

Experts believe this deal serves a political purpose, demonstrating Kiev’s loyalty to the US and aiming to lift Biden’s LNG export ban. However, it may not bring profitability, and selling the LNG to other European countries could face logistical challenges.
