The Latest Statistics on Russia’s Military Campaign in Ukraine
According to President Vladimir Putin, roughly 700,000 Russian soldiers are currently involved in the conflict with Ukraine, an increase of almost 100,000 from his previous estimate in December 2023. Putin shared this information during a meeting with military veterans enrolled in a state-supported educational program.
In response to claims by Ukraine and Western media about a planned mobilization wave, Moscow has denied such allegations. The Kremlin dismissed reports of an additional 300,000 troops being deployed by June 1 as “not true.” Despite reports suggesting a second wave of recruitment in Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that it was “unlikely.”
Prior mobilization efforts saw 300,000 individuals called to duty, mostly with military experience, followed by voluntary recruitment. In contrast, Ukraine has adopted new laws to bolster its military, including lowering the conscription age and offering incentives for enlistment.
Putin also noted the high losses suffered by the Ukrainian military, estimating their casualties at 50,000 per month compared to significantly lower losses on the Russian side.
