Niger Govt House abandoned as Bago, deputy fly to Mecca

In a recent development in Niger State, opposition parties have criticized Governor Mohammed Bago for embarking on a trip to Saudi Arabia amidst increasing insecurity issues in the state. The governor went to perform this year’s Hajj, taking his Deputy Yakubu Garba and other members of his cabinet with him, leaving the Government House empty.

The opposition parties raised concerns about the lack of leadership in the state with both the governor and his deputy absent simultaneously, accusing the ruling APC of being insensitive to the security and economic challenges facing the people. They cited the violation of the constitution by not transmitting power before leaving.

Critics labeled the governor’s actions as reckless and irresponsible, urging him to prioritize the state’s needs over personal travel. The PDP and NNPP have called for a return of the officials and a change in leadership to ensure good governance and respect for the constitution.

Efforts to get a response from the government were unsuccessful, but a government official defended the governor’s actions, stating that he could still operate effectively from abroad. Despite this, concerns remain about the leadership vacuum and lack of accountability during such crucial times.\
