Breaking News: Increased Power Tariff Burdens Citizens Post-Budget Announcement

The recent Budget 2024-25 has brought more financial strain on the already struggling citizens of Pakistan. The federal government disclosed a rise of Rs 5.72 per unit in the power tariff, as reported by ARY News.

NEPRA stated that the average electricity tariff will climb to Rs. 35.50 per unit from the current Rs. 29.78. The final decision on the implementation of this increase will be taken by the government, whether it will be gradual or immediate.

Starting from July 1, the surge in the power tariff will be put into effect, adding to the burden of inflation-hit households. Earlier, the Finance Minister presented a budget with a total outlay of Rs18.877 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year.

During the National Assembly session, opposition lawmakers protested by standing on desks, chanting slogans against the government and tearing copies of the Finance Bill 2025.
