Kano police ban Durbar events before Eid-el-Kabir

The Kano State Police Command has taken a proactive step ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations by banning all durbar activities throughout the state. This directive, revealed by the state police spokesperson Haruna Abdullahi on behalf of Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel, aims to ensure peace and security in the region.

The ban extends to all contending parties involved in durbar activities for the upcoming festival, as part of the state police command’s efforts to maintain tranquility in collaboration with security stakeholders. This decision follows security reports and consultations with relevant parties to prioritize the safety of the community.

This move comes amidst the ongoing crisis surrounding the Kano Emirate Council Law 2019 repeal and the controversial dethronement of Emir Ado Bayero. Recently, the Federal High Court in Kano ruled against the state government’s challenge of jurisdiction in a suit regarding fundamental human rights within the Kano emirate dispute.

With the court affirming its jurisdiction based on constitutional provisions, this ruling marks a significant development in the legal battle over the emirship tussle.
