Israeli court extends ban on Al Jazeera broadcast.

An Israeli court has extended the government’s shutdown of Al Jazeera for 35 more days, citing national security concerns. The initial 45-day order was issued early last month amid escalating tensions between the network and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. The court confirmed the closure of Al Jazeera’s bureaus in Israel, blocking access to its websites and seizing equipment.

The feud between Al Jazeera and Israel has intensified since the Gaza war broke out in October. The government accuses Al Jazeera of being a “mouthpiece for terrorism in the service of Hamas,” while the network denies these allegations. Despite facing opposition from media watchdogs and international bodies, Israel continues to enforce the ban on Al Jazeera broadcasts in the country.

While freedom of expression is crucial, the court emphasized the need to prioritize national security during times of war. As the shutdown continues, the future of Al Jazeera’s presence in Israel remains uncertain.
