Congress criticizes Centre for refusal to allow Kerala minister’s visit to Kuwait

Centre Denies Permission to Kerala Health Minister to Travel to Kuwait for Relief Efforts

The opposition Congress in Kerala criticized the Centre for denying permission to state Health Minister Veena George to travel to Kuwait to coordinate relief efforts for Malayalees affected by a tragic fire incident. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan expressed disappointment at the decision, stating that a state representative would have better coordinated relief efforts and assisted the Union government.

Veena George had requested permission to travel to Kuwait to support affected individuals and coordinate relief activities, which was denied by the Central government. Despite the state government’s decision to send her for relief efforts, she was not allowed to leave. The tragic fire in Kuwait’s Al-Mangaf building claimed the lives of 49 people, primarily Indians, and efforts were being made for treatment of the injured and repatriation of the deceased.

It is crucial for governments to work together during such crises, and the delay in granting permission highlighted a lack of coordination. The Kerala Congress emphasized the importance of swift action in supporting those affected by the tragic incident.
