Coalition of IFP, ANC, DA, NFP defeats MK Party in KZN

KwaZulu-Natal’s newly elected premier, Thami Ntuli, acknowledges the challenges facing the province and pledges to make them his priority. He expressed gratitude to the voters for giving him the mandate to lead and vowed to confront these challenges head-on.

Ntuli’s election was the result of a coalition between the IFP, ANC, DA, and NFP, securing 41 votes against the MK Party’s candidate, Phathisiswe Chiliza, who had the support of the EFF and obtained 39 votes. This coalition enabled Ntuli to form a government in the province.

Despite the MK Party winning the most votes in KwaZulu-Natal’s recent elections with 37 seats in the provincial legislature, they were unable to form a coalition. The EFF, with only two seats, became their only partner, falling short of the required number of seats to govern.

In the dynamic landscape of KwaZulu-Natal politics, the formation of this coalition government marks a significant shift in power dynamics and sets the stage for Thami Ntuli to address the pressing issues facing the province. With a commitment to put the needs of the people first, Ntuli’s leadership signals a new era in KwaZulu-Natal’s governance.\
