The Coalition of Indigenous Ethnic Nationalities (CIEN) has proposed a restructuring plan for Nigeria, suggesting the division of the country into eight geo-political regions with interim boundaries. This proposal, outlined in a letter written to President Bola Tinubu, aims to create a more inclusive and representative governance structure.
The suggested regions include the Southern region, consisting of states like Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, and Cross Rivers, and the South Eastern region made up of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. The plan also includes the creation of new states to increase the total number to 55, with a six-year rotational presidency modeled after the Swiss system.
CIEN’s vision for the restructuring of Nigeria involves increased regional autonomy and representation, aiming to address the country’s diverse cultural and ethnic landscape. By proposing new states and a rotational presidency, the organization seeks to promote unity and equity among the various regions of the nation.
