Sudan is facing a dire humanitarian crisis, with an estimated 756,000 people at risk of catastrophic food shortages by September. The situation is rapidly deteriorating, with 54% of the population facing critical shortages, including over nine million people in emergency situations or worse. Conflicts in Sudan have displaced over 10 million people, making it the world’s largest displacement crisis. Alongside food shortages, 3.6 million children are acutely malnourished. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) is conducting ongoing analysis to assess the severity of the crisis.
Recent projections suggest that 756,000 people will face catastrophic conditions, with specific areas like al-Fashir and Zamzam already experiencing extreme hunger. The situation is exacerbated by clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Top US diplomat Tom Perriello believes parts of Sudan are already in famine, raising concerns about the extent and duration of the crisis.
